Follow on Google News | Lucy Corr Village Wellness Program Aimed at Improving Employee HealthChesterfield-based retirement community implements employee-wellness program to combat rising rate of obesity in nursing
By: Madison+Main Recent studies performed at the University of Maryland’s School of Nursing found nursing to have one of the highest rates of obese or overweight workers, with 55% of 2,103 female nurses surveyed classified as obese. An additional survey performed by the UNLV School of Nursing, found that almost 54% of 4,980 randomly selected registered nurse responders were overweight or obese. Long hours, not enough sleep, high levels of stress and little to no access to healthy foods are among the factors of this epidemic. The Working on Wellness initiative has already seen success with TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) started on April 4 at Lucy Corr Village. In order to combat the high rates of stress nurses experience on a daily basis, WOW recently launched its Yoga series, which is held every Wednesday beginning at 3:45pm. Lucy Corr Village is also now corporate partners with the YMCA of Greater Richmond. The “Y” will waive the joining fee for employees of Lucy Corr, a value of $60 for an individual membership and $120 for a family membership.
