ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Oct. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- The Church of Scientology of Tampa’s Volunteer Ministers are hosting weekly open houses at the Church’s St. Petersburg Life Improvement Center Fridays from 1 – 6 pm.

The Volunteer Ministers are there to answer people’s questions about Scientology and provide basic Scientology processes called “Assists”.

“There’s a great multi-media information center here,” said Judy Fagerman, the Director of Tampa’s Volunteer Ministers. “People can just come in and give themselves a self-guided tour, but my volunteers and I are also able to answer questions. Scientology is relatively new, and people are curious about what it is. The fastest way for us to demonstrate the workability of Scientology is through the application of assists.”

Assists were developed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard to provide relief to people suffering with physical or emotional pain. Assists are not intended to cure medical conditions, said Fagerman, but they can speed the healing process.   http://www.scientology.org/videos/category/vm/assists.htm...

“Assists are simple procedures that can be helpful for anyone, even if you are not a Scientologist,” said Fagerman.  “Assists are also very easy to teach other people.”

“We had an Afghan war veteran in here last week, suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder,” added Fagerman. “He received an assist and found information here that he feels will help him overcome the stress he still carries with him from battle. He walked away with hope, that’s invaluable.”

About assists, Hubbard wrote, “Certainly life is not very tolerable to a person who has been injured or ill, to a woman who has just delivered a baby, to a person who has just suffered a heavy emotional shock. It is in fact a sort of practiced cruelty to insist by neglect that a person continue on in such a state when one can learn and practice and obtain relief for such a person.”

The Center is located at 336 1st Ave North in downtown St. Petersburg. Originally built in 1913 as the Women’s Town Improvement Association Building,  the property was purchased by the Church of Scientology of Tampa in 2007, and renovated to serve as an outreach of the Tampa Church, now located in the historic Ybor Square in Tampa.
