Follow on Google News | “Dentist to the Stars” Encourages Healthy Halloween Treats to Avoid Unexpected Dental Costs.Dr. Catrise Austin of New York City Cosmetic and General Dentistry is asking parents nationwide to encourage health treats this Halloween in order to save children from preventable dental treatments and unnecessary expenses.
By: JumpStart Ink and Catrise Austin “Candy in moderation isn’t the worst thing that can happen to a child’s teeth. But it certainly isn’t the best option. Chewy candies can damage teeth or get stuck in braces and citrus-based suckers can eat away at a tooth’s enamel. This Halloween parents should be encouraging chocolate,” said Dr. Austin. “ In moderation, chocolate dissolves quickly and doesn't stick to teeth. Sugar-free candies are also a better choice. I also encourage brushing one’s teeth within an hour after consuming any Halloween candy.” Dr. Austin is aware children aren’t going to select apples and oranges when it comes to Halloween treats, although in an ideal world she would deem this a “perfect scenario.” However, Dr. Austin says parents can help prevent emergency dental expenses (and procedures) if they talk with their children about why certain candies are better than others. “It’s not that I want to prevent children from having fun on Halloween. This said, I don’t think it is unreasonable to tell children to opt for chocolate treats versus hard or sticky candies.” About: Best known as the “Dentist to the Stars”, musicians, actors, comedians, journalists, models, beauty pageant contestants, and professional athletes have placed their smiles in Dr. Catrise Austin’s capable hands.
