-- STUDIO CITY, CALIFORNIA- October 16:
Harriett Bronson, first wife of the iconic Hollywood actor Charles Bronson, was honored last Wednesday night by the Book Publicists of Southern California for her book Charlie & Me: A Memoir
(Timberlake Press), naming it 2013's "Most Inspirational Memoir." The 19th Annual IRWIN Awards banquet was held in the beautiful Waterfalls Room of the Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City, on a perfect night under a full moon -- just like something out of a Hollywood movie. The 37-year-old organization was founded by publicist Irwin Zucker, who introduced the MC/Presenter, famed TV personality, Chuck McCann.Charlie & Me
tells the story of how Harriett and Charlie (then Charles Buchinsky) met in a Philadelphia drama school, fell in love and decided to make Charlie into a movie star. On their first date he had four cents in his pocket and went on to become one of the highest paid actors in the world. Their high profile marriage that produced two children disintegrated after Bronson fell under the spell–and into the bed–of the also-married English actress, Jill Ireland. After the couple's divorce, Harriett sought a career other than just being “the ex Mrs. Famous” and ended up becoming a radio talk show host for nine years (on KABC, KIEV and KGIL). One reviewer dubbed her husky “purr” the “best female voice in radio.”
"Charlie & Me
is a rags to riches story," said Harriett Bronson in her acceptance speech after receiving the award. "It's about a love tale gone wrong, and a life gone right." A truly "inspiring" journey.
