-- Brazil Florida Chamber President, Jefferson Michaelis and Space Florida President, Frank DiBello traveled to Brazil were they had meetings with more than one hundred top business executives, presented Seminars in the most important high tech research parks, and discussed enhanced business opportunities between Brazil and Florida.
Significant activities included a meeting with members of INPE regarding space policy, as well as formalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance partnerships in the areas of education, small satellite development, agricultural biotech, and research on aiming international cooperation between both nations.
In addition, Mr. Michaelis visited the State of Santa Catarina to present Space Florida’s International opportunities, and also meet with representatives of two high tech manufaturing companies which recently established contact with the Chamber of Commerce to initiate plans to setup its U.S. subsidiaries in Florida within several months.
During the Brazilian visit, Mr. Michaelis and DiBello also met with representatives of the State of Bahia, including the Research Park director and Unifacs University representative – one of the few universities in Brazil recognized by the Laureate International. Other activities included two symposiums in the city of Sao Jose dos Campos and Sorocaba, a technical tour at the Parque Tecnológico deSão José dos Campos
facilities including a glance at the CECOMPI Laboratories, and the Incubator Center, where the Brazil Florida delegation met with Mr. Carlos Fernando R. Mateus, Coordinator of the Aerospace & Defense cluster, Mr. Horacio Arantes, Director Science and Technology, and Elso Alberti, Executive Director of PQTEC. All activities were focused on increased business opportunities between the country of Brazil and Florida.
