Follow on Google News | Jonny Moseley: The Showstopper!Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, this X-game athlete hit snow for the first time when his family went on a trip to California. They later decided to move to San Francisco Bay Area in the year 1978. Jonny got his early education from the The Branson School in Ross. Being a better skier than his brothers, Jonny decided to take this passion of his one step ahead and started taking skiing lessons. By 1992, Jonny was enjoying his early skiing success as he joined Squaw Valley Freestyle Ski Team and later secured his first ever Junior National title. Making his on-snow existence felt, Jonny was selected to the U.S. Ski Team in the year 1993. But missing his spot on the 1994 Olympic team by only a whisker, Jonny set his eyes on the 1998 Olympics. In the process, the motivated skier put his education on a hold and formed into a full time skier for the first time ever in 1997. Jonny didn’t let himself down as he won the first two World Cup events of 1997/1998 season, enrolling himself for the Winter Olympics of 1998. The year was a high point in his career; he won the first American gold medal of the Nagano, Japan games of 1998, showcasing the signature 360 mute-grab move. Jonny’s ambition of captivating the Olympic medal met fate when he won gold in the 1998 Winter Olympics. The success was doubled with the U.S. National title as the Olympian finished with nine wins on the season. Following his glories, he was honored as the Sportsman of the Year by the U.S. Olympic Committee, inducted into Sports Hall of Fame by Rolling Stone magazine and became a part of the cover with Cindy Crawford for Freeskier magazine. He was also sponsored by Sprint, HEAD, Budweiser and ICER. After that Jonny aimed to take his reputation outside the World Cup circuit to round off his skills as a complete skier. Following up on decision, he challenged the International Skiing Federation (FIS) to alter their policy and allow athletes to take part in professional events such as EPSN’s X-Games; where he took second place courtesy his personalized new trick, the Dinner Roll. He also became the first skier to hold a medal (silver) in both X-Games and the Olympics (gold). Retiring from on-snow competition, Jonny filled his life with some other aspirations. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 2006. He also did quite a lot TV work; hosting shows on MTV, NBC and Outside TV. Presently he is the host of a marketing campaign by Ford Motor Company. On 25 March, 2006, Moseley married the love of his life, Malia Rich, a business manager. The couple was blessed with a boy, their first child, on September 4, 2007. With all that to his name, the former Olympian currently resides in Tiburon, California, adding further pieces of fame to his life. End
