Disasterprepared.net Offers a Look Ahead of that Rainy Day

While emergency communications are essential in time of crisis, there is little if any focus on the insurance industry's role and lack of meaningful information available to policyholders as well as to adjusters.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Oct. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- There could be a disaster ahead for insurance consumers or not. Should they count on their insurance? They can, according to policyholder advocate, Antone P. Braga. "Many people think they are financially prepared for a disaster simply because they carry insurance. The millions of policyholders who suffer from a disaster each year such as earthquake, hurricane, tornado and flood generally have only an idea of what they should expect based on company advertising. While emergency communications are essential in time of crisis, there is little if any focus on the insurance industry's role and lack of meaningful information available to policyholders as well as to adjusters. Basic information should reach the insuring public and adjusters alike. It not only helps to have access to the rules, it begs the question: what is there without them?" asked Braga.

"If there is one thing I am sure of, it's that most policyholders have not had access to fundamental insurance claim rights and information, not to mention insurance company timely obligations, responsibilities, and rules that meet what consumers have been promised. The same can be said of adjusters who lack information to guide them towards that end.  It is always a good ending to a story when the interest of the policyholder has been served without having to horse trade or "fight." However, much depends on an individual company adjuster's aspirations, temperament and training for that to be something on which to rely. There is no consistent alternative for actually knowing what to ask for and expect before adjusting begins," Braga continued.

He closed with his recommendation, "Most people carry insurance. Why shouldn't basic information ever reach them? They now need only look ahead of that rainy day."
