Radarsign™ Slows Speeding Drivers for Most Recognized Petrochemical Companies

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Oct. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- —U.S. demand for petroleum products requires oil refineries to operate around the clock, 365 days a year. As workers, heavy industrial equipment and crude oil move constantly through these facilities, efficiency of product transport and safety is the primary concern, with speed management being a top priority. To slow speeding drivers, three of the world’s largest petrochemical brands—Chevron (http://www.chevron.com/), ExxonMobil and Suncor (http://www.suncor.com/default.aspx)—are counting on driver feedback signs from Radarsign™, which are effective but do not impact the critical delivery demands of moving hundreds of thousands barrels of crude oil through their facilities each day.

The Chevron Pascagoula Refinery (http://pascagoula.chevron.com/home.aspx)—Chevron’s largest situated on 2,600 acres along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast—processes 330,000 barrels of crude oil per day.  Traffic moving through this expansive industrial complex must safely and dependably transport large volumes of potentially hazardous materials as well as more than 3,000 workers. When an expansion project created new traffic hazards with drivers speeding through construction zones, Chevron turned to Radarsign.

We knew radar signs would be the best solution and Radarsign products best suited our needs,” said Josh Strength, Deputy Security Operations Coordinator, at Chevron’s Pascagoula Refinery.   “The sign and the Radarsign Street Smart data collection software are very easy to use—they really are plug and play. The signs are placed all around the facility and have made a difference, especially near construction areas where they have helped considerably slowing folks down, making them aware of their speed.”

Covering five square miles, the ExxonMobil Baytown Area Complex (http://www.exxonmobil.com/NA-English/about_where_ref_bt.aspx) is the largest petroleum and petrochemical complex in the U.S., processing up to 584,000 barrels of crude oil per day.  More than 4,000 people work at this location which includes a refinery, two chemical plants, a regional engineering office and global technology center. With a wide range of traffic types passing through this mixed-use campus, ExxonMobil is using radar speed signs from Radarsign to slow industrial tractor-trailer rigs to passenger vehicles.

At Suncor Energy (http://www.suncor.com/en/about/232.aspx), one of Canada's leading integrated energy companies, the first corporate value—“Safety above all else”—expresses a commitment to protecting employees and others from harm. Radarsign driver feedback signs are a key component of the mission at the Commerce City, Colo. refinery location. Here, driver feedback signs from Radarsign—like sentry guards—greet every visitor that passes through the gate. The refinery processes 98,000 barrels of crude oil per day as well gasoline, diesel fuel and paving-grade asphalt, all while Radarsign quietly helps ensure safe driving speeds.

We have two Radarsign speed signs situated at the gates of our refinery as a precautionary measure so that truckers are aware of their speed and don't go fast,” said Sgt. Blair, Cole Cockrum Shift Supervisor. “We are thrilled with the signs making everyone aware of their speed!”

Chevron, ExxonMobil and Suncor Energy are part of an expanding roster of innovative energy companies—including ConocoPhillips (http://www.conocophillips.com/Pages/default.aspx), Halliburton (http://www.halliburton.com/en-US/default.page), BP (http://www.bp.com/) (Alaska and Ohio refineries), Shell (http://www.shell.us/), Valero (http://www.valero.com/default.aspx) and more—that have turned to Radarsign to provide traffic calming solutions on their industrial and mixed-use sites.

Radarsign—the manufacturer of the world’s first armored driver feedback sign—produces traffic-calming products that are cost efficient, effective and, importantly in these industrial installations, rugged.
