On Friday, October 25, parents and caregivers of special-needs children will have their own "Special Day Out."

The conference event is presented by SpeciaLives, a company dedicated to helping parents of young adults (age 18-24) “on a special path.” As SpeciaLives' founder (and special-needs parent) Debbie Oveland explains, “We're here to help bring encouragement, relief, and support to parents who are concerned about their children as they grow into adulthood, and this conference will help them find the resources they need to ease that transition, for their kids and for themselves as well.”

A Special Day Out will include presentations by national experts about the issues facing parents and children, including education, employment, health and fitness, and social interaction. In addition to Oveland, guest speakers will include:

The event comes at an ideal time, as the State of Texas has declared October Persons with Disabilities History and Awareness Month, as well as Disability Employment Awareness Month. “October is an important month for special-needs awareness,” says Oveland, “so it's a perfect time to reach out to parents like myself, to show them the resources that are available for them - and most of all, they need to know they're not alone.  That's why we're here, and that's the message behind A Special Day Out.”
