Why Do People Elope? WhereToElope.com Poll Says Money Matters Most

     But Dave Westfall, Elopement Consultant with WhereToElope.com, conducted a survey that found the biggest factor influencing a couple’s decision to elope is the one thing that, especially in the current economy, typically affects most big decisions: Money.

     “The results of our ‘Why You Eloped’ Poll revealed that 66.7 percent of couples eloped to save money,” Westfall said.

     The poll asked participants to choose the most significant reasons they eloped from a list of nine choices as well as the option to provide their own input.

     Half of those polled said having fun and enjoying their ceremony were top reasons to elope.

     About one-third of respondents mentioned saving time and maintaining their sanity as playing a role in their elopement decision while 25 percent said avoiding family politics was important.
