By: Polenberg Cooper Born in Brazil, DeCastro-Hirsch attended The Catholic University of Goias School of Law where she earned a law degree. In that same year, she immigrated to the United States where she worked as a paralegal in various areas of law, including personal injury, medical malpractice, worker’s compensation and PIP litigation, for five years. DeCastro-Hirsch subsequently entered the juris doctor program at Nova Southeastern University as a foreign attorney. She held summer clerkships handling matters in personal injury litigation and landlord tenant law. After taking the bar exam, DeCastro-Hirsch assisted her critical skills professor in commercial foreclosure disputes. During law school DeCastro-Hirsch was a member and treasurer for the Foreign Lawyers Association. She organized and participated in numerous meetings with attorneys from various Latin America countries to discuss economic and political developments within those countries, and how they contributed to the development of relations between Latin and North America. DeCastro-Hirsch is fluent in English and Portuguese.
