America Gathers at the Table for Racial Healing

Gather at the Table: The Healing Journey of  Daughter of Slavery and a Son of the Slave Trade
won the prestigious Phillis Wheatley Book Award (http://aalbc.com/books/wheatley-award-winners-2013.html) for Best Nonfiction (Biography & Memoir) this summer.  On October 15, the book will be released in paperback and be available in bookstores and online.

Positive reviews continue to flow as Gather at the Table gains traction as the “must read” of our times. YES! magazine said: “By authentically confronting themselves, each other, and the past that has shaped both black and white Americans, Morgan and DeWolf have created a powerful story of hope, awakening, and reconciliation. A recent blogger said: “I had to close this book frequently due to an eerie unease and a desire to deny…. But the book is just as intriguing and captivating as it is unsettling, so I headed back into the pages until I had devoured every one.”

The authors are available for media interviews, Skype conferencing with Reading Clubs, and speaking engagements at universities and other organizations.

About the Book

Sharon Morgan, a black woman from Chicago’s South Side and a descendant of slaves on both sides of her family, began a journey toward racial reconciliation with Tom DeWolf, a white man from rural Oregon who descends from the largest slave-trading dynasty in U.S. History. Over a three-year period, the pair traveled thousands of miles, both overseas and through 27 states, visiting ancestral towns, courthouses, cemeteries, plantations, and historic sites. They engaged in deep conversations about how the lingering trauma of slavery shaped their lives. Gather at the Table is the chronicle of their journey.

In Gather at the Table, DeWolf and Morgan speak candidly about racism and the unhealed wounds of slavery. The authors argue that racism is more subtle now than in the past, but still exists and continues to divide America. Their book offers practical advice on how individuals and communities can engage in a healing process.
