Saltwater-borne Bacteria Caused Nine Deaths and 27 Infections in Florida

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Oct. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- With nine people dead and 27 reported infected by the Vibrio vulnificus bacteria in Florida, VisualDx, a mobile app and online resource to help physicians quickly and accurately diagnose disease, is working to increase awareness of the symptoms and to share photos that will help health care professionals identify the potentially deadly bacterial infections sooner.

VisualDx has created a free site for health care professionals to visit where they can see photos of the lesions that occur on the skin of people infected with the saltwater-borne bacteria. Because Vibrio vulnificus infections are rare, most physicians have never seen a patient with the disease and may be unaware of the symptoms or skin lesions which indicate a patient has become infected with the bacteria.

Typically, physicians use VisualDx to help them diagnose disease by entering a patient’s symptoms, medical history and other information into the mobile app or an online version of VisualDx.
