Author, Sharyn Atkinson, recovering from potentially fatal complications related to blood disorder.

MELBOURNE, Australia - Oct. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Atkinson was diagnosed with a blood disorder, Factor V Leiden, five years ago and has had deep vein thrombosis on three previous occasions since then. Doctors confirmed late Tuesday that Atkinson has two blood clots in her right calf and she is currently being treated for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) for a fourth time.

Factor V Leiden is a genetic hypercoagulability blood disorder. The blood excessively clots and can lead to the formation of fatal blood clots in the veins. It is possible for the blood clot to break off and travel to the brain, heart or lungs and prove fatal, however Atkinson remains optimistic.

Although initially disappointed when she suspected a fourth blood clot, Atkinson remains optimistic as she has survived it previously and sees no reason why she won’t do the same on this occasion. She is frustrated by the interruption to her life because she is outgoing, however her resilience shines through and she is taking this as an opportunity to look for new things to do when she has fully recovered.
