Bullies And Friends Documentary Director to Speak at NVEEE Anti-Bullying Summit at FIU Law School

MIAMI - Oct. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- NVEEE: National Voices for Equality, Education and Enlightenment, along with Florida International University's College of Law, will be hosting the "Not On My Watch" Anti-Bullying Summit at FIU Law School in Miami, Florida, on Saturday, October 19, 2013. This day long special event, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will be free and open to the public to assist in bullying prevention efforts in the community.

Award-winning filmmaker and bullying expert Cassidy McMillan, who Directed and Produced the acclaimed upcoming Documentary Film "Bullies And Friends", on bullying and a precedent setting bullycide court case, will be a featured speaker at the Summit. Also speaking at the Summit will be Jane Clementi, Co-Founder of the Tyler Clementi Foundation, and whose son Tyler Clementi, a gay teen, committed suicide after being bullied by classmates at Rutgers University.

Additionally, Cassidy McMillan and Jane Clementi will be part of a Bullying Prevention Expert Panel, which will also include NVEEE's Founder and Executive Director Jowharah Sanders; Special Education Attorney and FIU Professor Laverne Pinkney; District Chairperson of the TRUST Program Delphine Gervais; former Judge and FIU Law Professor Phyllis Kotey, and others.

The expert panel will offer insight on the bullying crisis, information on bullying and bullycide awareness, and ideas on bullying prevention.

In addition, there will be breakout sessions for both youth and adults, including "Digital Drama & Cyberbullying" presented by Alex Wall, Managing Director of RockIt Lab who serves on NVEEE's Board of Directors; and "Gender & Orientation" presented by the Yes Institute. Additionally, NVEEE Youth Ambassadors will be holding discussions with youth on bullying prevention and the importance of being an "upstander" not a "bystander" to bullying.

The numbers of kids who have taken their lives due to bullying is tragically continuing to grow. One child's death due to bullying is too many, and we all must do more to bring light to this growing epidemic. The reason I've directed and produced the upcoming documentary film "Bullies And Friends" is to have the film be a bullying prevention resource that will help prevent bullying and bullycides. Additionally, the film will help kids know that they're not alone in the bullying they're experiencing, that they can and should seek help if they're being bullied, and that help is available. Cassidy McMillan is the award-winning Director and Producer of the upcoming documentary film "Bullies And Friends".
