34% of British Holiday Makers Holidaying with Their Parents, Do So Because The Parents Pay For It!

Oct. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- In a recent poll, online supplier of travel insurance and airport parking, Essential Travel (http://www.essentialtravel.co.uk/) found that 34% of adults who went on holiday with their parents or in-laws, do it because parents are willing to foot the bill. Whether this is a practical solution to the financial pressures of the recession, or a sign that Brits are becoming used to the idea of the "Bank of Mum and Dad" paying for everything, is unclear.

Either way it does indicate that many of us are struggling to afford our holidays. Earlier this year, Government figures from The Office for National Statistics illustrated that families' disposable income fell 1.7 per cent between the end of last year and the first three months of this year: the biggest decline since early 1987. Meanwhile, The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has stated that these official figures may in fact be too positive and many families are struggling to a greater degree than this, especially working couples with children.

However, it was also encouraging to see that 27% of us holiday with our parents because we enjoy their company, no strings attached.

Nina Montgomery, Essential Travel's travel insurance expert, suggests: "One tip that can help families save money is to buy an Annual policy that names everyone travelling. Anyone on that policy can then use it for travelling - with or without the rest of the family - for the rest of the year. This can help you save if all or some of you will be taking more than one holiday in a year."
