Blackbeard Exhibit at Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum Will Feature 'Queen Anne's Revenge' Artifacts

The state historic site near Sedalia and Gibsonville will host a traveling exhibit comtaining some of the items that state underwater archaeologists have pulled from the shipwreck of Blackbeard's flagship and conserved at a special laboratory.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Oct. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- SEDALIA, N.C. – Ahoy, mateys! The Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum will soon be hosting the N. C. Department of Cultural Resources' traveling exhibition “Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge 1718.”

The exhibition includes items pulled from the underwater wreckage of Blackbeard the pirate's infamous flagship, the Queen Anne's Revenge (http://www.qaronline.org/).

Opening Day activities will take place at the museum from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Admission to Opening Day is free. The museum will offer tours of the exhibition and a host of pirate-themed activities including pirate photo-ops, pirate crafts and games, pirate snacks and a treasure map. Prizes will be offered. Visitors are encouraged to come dressed in their best pirate outfits to receive extra prizes.

The Queen Anne's Revenge exhibition will run at the museum from Tuesday, Oct. 29, through Saturday, Dec. 7, and will be open to the public during normal museum hours, Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the exhibition will regularly be $2 for children and $3 for adults. Pre-arranged special and school groups will be free; pirate-themed children's activities can be available upon advance request.

The Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum is part of the Division of State Historic Sites within the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources. The state historic site interprets the history of Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown, an African-American educator, and the Alice Freeman Palmer Memorial Institute, a respected African-American boarding school open from 1902-1971.
