GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill. - Oct. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Sunrise Chevrolet, a Glendale Heights car dealership, is very concerned about the safety of their customers. Customers can have peace of mind this year when they shop for new 2014 Chevy models because a total of seven new Chevy cars have received overall five-star scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the top score from the organization.

Chevy has received more top overall scores from the NHTSA than any other automotive brand. To put that further into perspective, Chevy has more five-star overall safety scores than Ford and Toyota put together. The NHTSA has awarded the top five-star score to the 2014 Chevy Camaro Coupe, Cruze, Impala, the redesigned Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, Sonic, Traverse, and the hybrid Chevy Volt.

The NHTSA was first formed in 1978 to run safety tests on cars released in the United States, adapting their requirements and designations for changing automotive environments. In 2011, the organization instituted their New Car Assessment Program. This stricter safety program puts vehicles through rollover, front, side-impact, and side-pole crash tests. Vehicles can receive one to five stars in each test and then are also awarded an Overall Vehicle Score.

Part of what has made Chevy so successful this year is their desire to stay ahead of the competition in developing new safety technology. For instance, the 2013 Chevy Traverse was the very first car on the market to have a center front-seated mounted airbag available, which protects both people in front during a side crash.

The 2014 Chevy Cruze, one of the vehicles to make the list of seven, has a total of 10 airbags that come standard. That’s more than any other vehicle in the compact sedan class. The 2014 Silverado 1500 also has a new feature called the Safety Alert Seat. When the pickup truck senses danger, the seat will actually emit a pulse to alert the driver. Other Chevy models like the Sonic offer advanced safety features like Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert.
