LAS VEGAS - Oct. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- On the eve of his fourth annual event, PollyGrind founder Chad Clinton Freeman has announced his film festival is now entering the realm of DVD distribution. Frank S. Petrilli’s Play Hooky will be the very first from the PollyGrind Presents sublabel of Wild Eye Releasing.

A world premiere and winner of the Most Innovative Film award at PollyGrind in 2012, Freeman calls Play Hooky the perfect film to launch his latest endeavor.

“Shot in seven days with no budget on a $200 flipcam, Play Hooky is the epitome of the pioneering spirit that inspired me to found PollyGrind,” Freeman said. “It’s a great example of making something out of nothing and I’m really excited to be helping to share this film with the world.”

Petrilli, who will be at PollyGrind along with some of Play Hooky’s cast and crew to help hand out awards, said to “have the film labeled for distribution as the first PollyGrind film is a privilege beyond expectation.”

Play Hooky is a fly-on-the-wall experience of a group of high school students skipping school and looking to party. Eventually the group, one of its members equipped with a camera in his hat, heads to an old abandoned insane asylum and then all hell breaks loose.

An international film festival steeped in artistic freedom, PollyGrind celebrates individuality, diversity, creativity, and empowerment by showcasing the work of filmmakers with defiantly independent visions.

The latest installment of PollyGrind, held entirely at Las Vegas’ downtown arthouse theatre7, kicks off Oct. 9 and runs through Oct. 13 with an encore weekend Oct. 25-26.

More than 100 films from 13 countries will screen, with filmmakers ranging in age from 11 to 67 years old. Eighteen features will have world premieres and filmmakers from as far as India, Australia and Bolivia will be in attendance.

Special guests slated to attend in support of new projects screening include exploitation legend Dyanne Thorne of Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS; Charlene Amoia of How I Met Your Mother; Honey Lauren of Doris Wishman’s Satan Was a Lady; Gordon Bressack, the Emmy award winning writer of cartoon classics Pinky and the Brain, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Smurfs and more; Paul Orehovec, the producer of television shows The Closer and Major Crimes; Katie Groshong of Jug Face; Natalie Jean of Adam Ahlbrandt’s double feature Buried in Flesh; Jessica Cameron, the scream queen turned director of Truth or Dare; controversial actress and filmmaker Amy Hesketh of Barbazul; Corey Taylor, who is in nine different official selections; and Devanny Pinn of last year’s award winning film The Black Dahlia Haunting.

Freeman said he hopes PollyGrind Presents releases can be an ongoing opportunity for the filmmakers that enter his festival.

“PollyGrind has had more than 60 of its official selections nab distribution in the festival’s first three years,” Freeman said. “We’ve helped mentor and champion a lot of filmmakers and films, and I feel like this is the natural progression of PollyGrind to the next step.”

Wild Eye Releasing founder and CEO Rob Hauschild, who will be attending the festival as well, called PollyGrind “an essential showcase for indie art house and grindhouse movies” and said “Wild Eye is excited to now help bring some of the festivals’ outstanding winners to a larger audience with traditional distribution.”

Play Hooky’s DVD will feature liner notes by Freeman, a video introduction and and audio commentary track with Freeman and the cast and crew.

Wild Eye Releasing has been a sponsor of the festival since 2011. This year they are hosting a distribution panel, which will also feature Glen Coburn of Whacked Movies. Wild Eye is also showcasing Peter Grendle’s Blood Soaked, one of their upcoming titles.

The audience’s reaction to the film at the 6 p.m. Oct. 12 screening of Blood Soaked will be recorded for an audio track on the film’s upcoming DVD release. The crowd is encouraged to laugh, scream and talk as much as they want during the screening and will all receive special thanks credits on IMDb. Grendle and others from the film will be on hand for a Q&A afterwards.

The recording of the audio track is one of a number of ways Freeman is making this year’s PollyGrind interactive.

Currently, he is running a social media contest with Chemical Burn Entertainment asking for help spreading news about PollyGrind on Twitter or Facebook. From now until Oct. 13, using the hashtag #PollyXposed will win someone a Glen Burton guitar and DVDs from Chemical Burn, as well as PollyGrind swag.

This year also marks the introduction of the PollyGrind Girls. Played by actresses Tommie Lee Vegas, Taylor Kilgore and Corinne Garfield, the girls known as Thrill Kill Jill, Jessica X and Miley Grimes will serve as greeters, take photos on the red carpet with attendees, and will help host screenings and give away swag from festival sponsors such as The Asylum, Apprehensive Films, Wild Eye, Whacked Movies and Alternative Cinema.

World premieres at this year’s event will be Jonas, To Jennifer, 13/13/13, Slaughterhouse Bride, House of Forbidden Secrets, Buried In Flesh, Desolate, Darkest Days, American Girls, Sweet Leaf, Diet of Sex, The Minstrel Killer, The Synthetic Man, The Yellow Bellies, Sacrifice: In the Name of Goddess Gadhimai, Tricks, Eye of the Bennu and Legend of the Hillbilly Butcher.

Other special guests confirmed to be at the festival are Chandan Gupta (Sacrifice), Elisabeth Fies (The Commune), Danny Field (Darkest Days), Nick Sommer and Drew Rosas (Billy Club), Julian Grant (Sweet Leaf), Katherine Dohan (What I Love About Concrete), Jeff Wedding (A Measure of the Sin), Edward Payson (The Cohasset Snuff Film), Rob Grant (Desolate), Eric Anthony Pereira (American Girls), Todd Sheets (House of Forbidden Secrets) and many more.
