Nation Wide American Craft Week Kicks Off in October

This fall, Americans in over 40 states will be celebrating the art of handmade craft. From Oct. 4 to 13, American Craft Week will feature hundreds of diverse events in galleries and artist studios, museums and schools, as well as at fairs and festivals.

Leaf peepers coming to New England can experience color outside and inside at the many American Craft Week celebrations. One major festival includes The Paradise City Arts Festival from October 12, 13 and 14. This year marks its 19th year as New England’s premier showcase for fine and functional art, with an astonishing breadth of exhibitors and activities. Cavernous barns are transformed into elegant exhibition halls, remarkable sculptures are installed in beautiful gardens, peaked tents appear, a soundstage goes up and local chefs fire up their grills. 275 exhibiting artists arrive from every corner of the country to showcase the very best in American craft, design, painting and sculpture.

Other participants include the 35th Anniversary of the Putney Craft Tour (Nov 29, 30 and Dec 1), the Craftproducers art and craft festivals in Stowe (Oct 11-13) and many others. To find events in your area go to www.americancraftweek.com.

“American Craft enriches our homes, wardrobes, offices and public spaces. It contributes to our nation's economy, our balance of trade, and the fabric of our national history,” says Diane Sulg, a board member of the Craft Retailers & Artists for Tomorrow and co-chair of American Craft Week. “By taking part in the celebration, people are joining in on the trend of buying artisan and locally made products.” More information at www.americancraftweek.com; www.paradisecityarts.com.
