KETCHUM, Idaho - Oct. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Sculptor Ken Newman of Cambridge Idaho will be speaking about "The Survival Strategies of an Idaho Artist" at Jennifer Bellinger's Art Studio and Gallery, Friday, October 11 from 5-6pm during Sun Valley's Gallery Walk. He will share his journey as an Idaho wood and bronze sculptor - sharing the twists and turns and love of rural Idaho.

Jennifer Bellinger met Ken Newman in 2010 at Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale, AZ., where they were both exhibiting. “I immediately fell in love with Ken’s work. His skill and more importantly, his vision is what grabs you and keeps you coming back for another look, to understand and see what it is that makes his work stand apart from other wildlife sculpture.  When I made the decision to open my own gallery last fall I knew I wanted to represent Ken’s amazing sculpture.”

Ken will talk about many of his sculptures in the gallery. Of special interest and hard to miss, “Precipitous Drop” is a huge sculpture of a coyote chasing two chukars off a cliff. It is carved from a single 150# chunk of white bark pine from 9,000 ft. elevation in Wyoming.  This beautiful and imposing sculpture is Newman’s “interpretation of man’s meddling and impact on nature.”  He says “If not for man, would the coyote and chukar have ever crossed paths? In the rocky and arid west, the adopted chukar has flourished, while the coyote is the poster child for adaptation. For now nature sits atop man’s pinnacle, a geometric mountain of metal from an abandoned combine, whose natural patina so perfectly captures the color of rocky ledges.”

On the opposite end of the size scale is Ken’s bronze entitled “Calm after the Storm”.  Perched at the tip end of a strong horizontal geometric form is a tiny hummingbird, calmly preening. Newman says, “Beauty and symmetry are sculpturally wonderful, I seem to be drawn to the struggles of life, sometimes difficult to share, but important to embrace. The struggle builds character and perseverance, qualities I admire and inspires insightful sculptural stories for others to explore and contemplate.”

Ken Newman is an elected member of the: National Sculpture Society, Allied Artists of America, and the Audubon Artists all based in NYC.  He is a Signature Member of: Society of Animal Artists, NYC and an Affiliate member of the National Sculptors’ Guild, Loveland, CO.  Visit Ken Newman's website at http://www.kennewmansculptures.com
