StoAmigo’s CloudLocker Joins the Cast of the San Diego Film Festival

Patent-pending technology protects creative works of international filmmakers

LAS VEGAS - Oct. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Las Vegas, Nevada — As the works of filmmakers from around the world go on display today at the 12th annual San Diego Film Festival, a small-but-powerful device is busy working behind the scenes. This year Festival officials have selected StoAmigo’s CloudLocker to collect and manage the event’s large video and movie files.

Unlike a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, CloudLocker is actually a mini-server that is kept in a home or office, providing all the convenience of cloud technology coupled with an innovative approach to sharing and control over digital media. Participating filmmakers were given access to transfer and upload their movies, short films, documentaries and other files to the CloudLocker via the internet, through the use of a simple desktop app. At the same time, the CloudLocker allows the Festival staff to store and share the files safely and securely in their headquarters location.

“The CloudLocker gives us the ability we need to manage large files, which has presented some challenges for us in the past,” said Stephanie Inscoe, San Diego Film Festival producer. “We’ve really enjoyed the experience and the ease of use of the CloudLocker.”

While online cloud storage services have become very popular in recent years, users are growing more concerned about potential privacy and security breaches and losing control of their personal digital media stored in the Cloud. This could be disastrous for many but especially for filmmakers, who pour countless hours of effort and creativity into proprietary productions.

Having a CloudLocker at home or in the office lets filmmakers keep their work in their possession, thus retaining their full rights of ownership and privacy. CloudLocker also allows those works to be accessed from anywhere with any device, perfect for chance encounters with busy studio executives.  CloudLocker’s customizable permission settings give filmmakers the power to decide who can stream, download or pass their work along to others, making feedback and collaboration a breeze while protecting against unauthorized duplication and distribution. Those settings can be modified and file access can be completely retracted at any time; ideal for scheduling limited, exclusive screenings of brand new trailers to promote upcoming projects. In addition, StoAmigo is the first to offer the exciting mobile-to-mobile sharing via QR codes, which is a great way to share film snippets and generate even more interest in a cinematic venture.

The San Diego Film Festival is a five-day educational and entertaining gathering, with more than 13,000 expected to attend the one-of-a-kind film premieres, informative industry panels, and filmmaker and celebrity events. Full of star-studded events, the Festival also includes a tribute to American comedy producer/director/screenwriter Judd Apatow, known for his work on iconic films like Bridesmaids, This is 40, Knocked Up, Pineapple Express and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. The San Diego Film Festival will present Apatow their “Visionary Filmmaker Award” on Thursday, October 3rd at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla, which is open to the public with a San Diego Film Festival VIP pass. The Festival is produced by the non-profit San Diego Film Foundation.

“We are excited to be able to play a role in the San Diego Film Festival,” said StoAmigo president Ben Ow. “It is a great opportunity to showcase how some of the best features of the CloudLocker are appropriate for the film industry and to recognize this special event, we’re offering Festival attendees a $50 discount off the purchase of their very own CloudLocker – with a portion of the proceeds going to the San Diego Film Foundation to show our support for this amazing endeavor.”

To take advantage of the discount, attendees must order their CloudLocker at https://order.stoamigo.com/index.html  and use the promo code SDFF2013.
