By: Kasie Bolling/Woodall Creative Group “It was a really great event,” said David Vinson, founding family member of Kids ‘R’ Kids International. “Students, teachers, and Kids ‘R’ Kids of Alpharetta owners Shelan Meheux and Herrick Nero were all honored to welcome our distinguished guests. While there, Mrs. Deal read a book to the children, took a brief tour of the school and was able to witness firsthand Kids ‘R’ Kids’ commitment to fostering a love of learning in our young students while providing them with a strong foundation for their future success in Kindergarten and beyond. Before she left, the students presented Mrs. Deal with a handmade book and she seemed truly delighted. Everyone at Kids ‘R’ Kids International is particularly proud of the hard work and dedication that our students and Pre-K teachers have displayed to garner the attention of Bright From the Start and Voices of Georgia’s Children, earning the school a well-deserved spot in the Top 10 performing Pre-K programs for the last two years in a row.” Bright From the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is responsible for meeting the child care and early education needs of Georgia's children and their families – which includes the administration of the nationally recognized Georgia Pre-K Program. To be named among the Top 10 performing Georgia Pre-K programs, Kids ‘R’ Kids of Alpharetta had to undergo classroom assessments and meet criteria for specific performance indicators outlined by Bright From the Start. Voices of Georgia’s Children – a nonprofit child policy and advocacy organization concerned with the health, well-being and education of children throughout the state – established Georgia Pre-K Week to celebrate an exceptional program that benefits nearly 84,000 four year olds in Georgia. School owner Shelan Meheux gives a great deal of the credit for the success of the Pre-K program at Kids ‘R’ Kids of Alpharetta to its teachers – Ashley Stewart, Mercedes Akers, Debbie Jonker and Basanti Saha. The school – located at 3455 Webb Bridge Road in Alpharetta – provides two Georgia Pre-K classrooms, representative of 22 students each. Beyond its Pre-K classrooms, Kids ‘R’ Kids of Alpharetta features eight additional classroom suites, a cafeteria, a resource room, a large activity gym for before and after school students, and four large play areas separated for age groups. It is a Georgia State, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accredited early learning academy that serves the children and families of Alpharetta. It is one of 38 Kids ‘R’ Kids Academies throughout Metro Atlanta that are pleased to offer the Georgia Pre-K Program to their students. Kids ‘R’ Kids’ history with Georgia Pre-K dates back to the birth of the program in the early 1990’s when the early education franchise pioneered it with then Governor Zell Miller.
