Triangle Day School Welcomes New Head of School

DURHAM, N.C. - Sept. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Triangle Day School is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Norry as Head of School.  In this position, Norry will work with the Board of Trustees and the faculty to effectively fulfill the mission of Triangle Day School, fostering intellectual engagement, enthusiasm for learning and creativity in thinking in a comfortable setting.

“The Board of Trustees is excited to announce the appointment of Doug Norry as our Head of School.  With his extensive experience in the educational field and his superb communication skills, he’ll be a great asset to Triangle Day School in helping us to fulfill our mission and instill our values,” said Current Chair of the Triangle Day School Board of Trustees John Board.  “The faculty and students have enjoyed welcoming Norry, his wife and their three children to the Triangle Day School family.”

Prior to joining Triangle Day School, Norry worked as the Head of Middle School and then as Special Assistant to the Headmaster at Landon School, an all-boys school in Bethesda, Maryland.  In that position, Norry successfully created a more efficient budget and worked with faculty and students to create a more diversified and nurturing educational environment.  Before working at Landon School, Norry served as Assistant Director of the Middle School for The Bryn Mawr School.

In addition to his work in school administration, Norry has experience as an educator having worked as a teacher at co-ed schools, which include the Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School in St. Louis, Missouri and the Seven Hills School in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Throughout his career, Norry has been very active in student athletics and has served as a coach for multiple youth sports, both for boys and girls teams.

Norry attended Landon School as a student and then went on to attend Amherst College, followed by the Teacher’s College at Columbia University.  Norry was a double major in Geology (Summa Cum Laude) and Psychology (Phi Beta Kappa) at Amherst and received the Stearns Prize for excellence in Geology and Coplin Prize for excellence in Psychology.

Norry attended the notable Klingenstein Center for Private School Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University where he earned a Masters in Arts in Education Administration.  Norry was chosen to participate in the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) E.E. Ford Fellowship and has received extensive training in leadership through their conferences and summer institute.

Norry currently resides in Durham with his wife, Carrie, and their three children, Will (6th grade), Emily (5th grade), and Kate (2nd grade), all students at Triangle Day School.
