Luciano Berio's “Folk Songs” take listeners around the world in an intimate portrayal of vernacular tunes from regions ranging from Azerbaijan to Sardinia to the USA. The concert concludes with the final movement from Gustav Mahler's epic symphony for voice and orchestra, “Das Lied von der Erde,” which makes use of Chinese motifs and poetry, truly unique in Mahler's output.
