Inscape Performs Music by Mahler, Berio, and Visconti

BETHESDA, Md. - Sept. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- September 26, 2013 -- Bethesda, MD -- The Inscape Chamber Orchestra (http://www.inscape.org/index.html) performs a concert entitled “Songs of the Earth” at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Bethesda, MD on October 6, 2013 at 5PM.  The program features Luciano Berio’s “Folk Songs,” Daniel Visconti’s “Low Country Haze,” and Der Abscheid from Gustav Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde.” Mezzo-soprano Monica Soto-Gil and baritone Andrew McLaughlin join the program as soloists.

With this program, Inscape explores the use of folk song and poetry as interpreted by a variety of composers.  “Low Country Haze”, a work by Virginia-based composer Daniel Visconti, imagines the unfamiliar sounds of nature that 16th-century explorers must have heard in their trip through the American south.  Luciano Berio's “Folk Songs” take listeners around the world in an intimate portrayal of vernacular tunes from regions ranging from Azerbaijan to Sardinia to the USA.  The concert concludes with the final movement from Gustav Mahler's epic symphony for voice and orchestra, “Das Lied von der Erde,” which makes use of Chinese motifs and poetry, truly unique in Mahler's output.
