Disney to Expand RFID Experiences with Playmation
A new Trademark application reveals a wide ranging project for Disney as they look set to invest further in RFID experiences for their services and products.
Although just about every conceivable consumer product is attached to the application, the central feature appears to be the connectivity provided by the contactless RFID technology.
Although speculation, one theory that holds some merit would be an extended development of the similalry named Vinylmation figures.
RFID technology would enable toys and figures to interact with one another and also to connect to the wider internet as well as locations such as theme parks and Disney stores.
Disney has enjoyed Vinylmation as a successful cult collectable product sold from within its parks and Disney stores and Playmation offers a much richer marketing opprtunity and user exeprience.
Disney are already rolling out RFID services within Walt Disney World at a reported cost of $1.5bn, with guests about to experience an immersive vacation experience enabling merchandise purchases, dining reservations, priority attraction reservations and room key access via the use of the RFID MyMagic+ Magicbands.
Recently, Disney had also inroduced IR technology 'Glow With The Show Illminated Mouse Ears' enabling guests a chance to become part of the show as their tri-color LED lit 'ears' synchronise with audio and ambient light effects.
It has become increasingly clear that Disney are looking to engage with their customers and this new Playmation initiative offers the possibilty of intereactive experiences between their merchandise items and theme park locations.
The result being a unique experience, capaable of evolving to suit the user's own way of interacting with the products and services of Disney.
