Stamford Innovation Center Launches InnovationEd at Fall Open House

-- Education Program Will Equip Entrepreneurs & Startups with New Skills --

STAMFORD, Conn. - Sept. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- STAMFORD, CT – With its first anniversary just around the corner, the Stamford Innovation Center (http://www.stamfordicenter.com) announced the launch of its brand new educational program, InnovationEd, at its fall open house on Tuesday night.  Already underway, InnovationEd will spark creative thinking, foster a community of innovative professionals and equip students with the skills they need to succeed.

“We’re a ‘startup for startups,’ that is, we’re here to support the founding and growth of local companies,” said Peter Propp, vice president of marketing at the Stamford Innovation Center.  “Since we launched last year, we’ve noticed the need for entrepreneurs, technologists and other local business leaders to take classes that address the specific business and technical skills required to advance their goals.  With the launch of InnovationEd, we’re hoping to transform these thinkers and dreamers into doers and creators — and promote collaborative, life-long learning in ‘The City That Works.’”

The new InnovationEd program focuses on four main areas: strategy, technology, marketing and leadership.  Instructors are generally local business leaders, including Susan Anderheggen of Danbury (“XFactor Leadership”), Bruce Kasanoff of Westport (“From Idea to Opportunity”), Ivy Eisenberg of White Plains, NY (“Startup Owners Manual Reading Group”) and Mike Rogers, the CTO of Norwalk-based Gigmasters, who will teach “Mobile Development with iOS.”  From web development and Wordpress to digital marketing and design, InnovationEd will offer classes, courses and workshops on the most relevant skills in the startup community.

Coinciding with the launch, Marc Michel, venture capitalist with NYC-based Metamorphic Ventures, spoke on “The Digital Media Opportunity.”  Metamorphic invests in startups and early-stage companies exclusively in the digital media and digital commerce sectors.  One of its portfolio companies, Stamped, was Marissa Mayer's first acquisition after becoming head of Yahoo!

“With his 20 years of experience in private equity and venture investment, Marc provided some great insights into the digital media landscape, startups, and funding,” Propp said.  “We’re excited to have Marc and other NYC-based VCs back here in the future.”
