NEW YORK - Sept. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- It is a very diverse world we live in, yet the hopes and aspirations of people everywhere are similar. We all wish a better life for our loved ones and try our best to succeed, but more often than not, our hopes remain distant dreams.

A collection of 28 short stories, the new book The Distant Dreams is a book that spans over three decades of the author’s government career. He bases his stories on the ethos of the people and places he visited around the globe. Most of the stories have Indian/Asian and African backgrounds, focusing on the rural populace.

The stories set in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, where the author worked for the International Monetary Fund, highlight the appalling conditions existing there in the 1990s. The new economic order resulted in no jobs, gas, or power in bitter winters. “I was amazed by the strong willpower and determination of the Georgians to survive in such harsh conditions.” A few other stories reflect the effects of economic globalization on poor countries like Malawi, showing how the locals suffer, even as their country’s resources end up benefiting the rich and powerful.
