WASHINGTON - Sept. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- WASHINGTION, DC, Monday, September 23, 2013 – The Reel Independent Film Extravaganza (RIFE) is proud to announce its lineup of films, which represent countries from around the globe, for its seven day festival, scheduled for Friday, October 11 through Thursday, October 17 at the West End Cinema in Washington, DC.

The 4th Annual RIFE event will feature films from Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Israel, and the US and will cover the full scope of genres, including coming of age, human rights, neo-noir, sci-fi, and silent.

Opening the event will be a meet and greet at 5:00 pm on Friday, October 11, which will be followed by the screening of two films that are receiving great attention throughout the film festival circuit. “The New Public” is a film chronicling the challenging and emotional four-year journey of the first students, parents, and teachers involved with a new, arts-focused public high school in Brooklyn, NY. The film will be making its television broadcast premiere on the PBS/World Channel series, “America Reframed”. In addition, “Vital Voices: HawaAbdi”, is a moving animated film about Somalia’s first female gynecologist who has been responsible for the care of over 90,000 people since the collapse of the Somali government. .

Many of last year’s winning films went on to experience significant success on the indie film festival circuit, including “Theresa is a Mother (http://theresaisamother.com)”, “Invisible Men (http://www.theinvisiblemenfilm.com)”, and “The Three Way (http://www.thethreewaymovie.com/)”, all of which captured multiple awards and continue to garner attention.  (More information about the filmmakers can be found in RIFE’s blog (http://www.reelindependentfilm.com/blog.cfm).) This year’s event will also feature films that have already begun to achieve success, including “Not Anymore,”which has racked up awards from such festivals as Long Beach International Film Festival, the Isle of Wight Film Festival, the Lens Film Festival in LA, and the Evolution International Film Festival in Hollywood, to name a few.

“We couldn’t be happier with the films that we will be featuring at this year’s event,” says RIFE Co-Founder Spencer Johnson. “In just four years, we have been able to reach filmmakers who come from every continent around the world, and that is really gratifying.”

This year’s RIFE event also attracted sponsors. Both Whole Foods and Vita Coco signed on to show their support.
