What does it really take to flourish at work? Practically Positive & London Metropolitan University

It Takes 6 Things According to Our Original Academic Research.

LONDON - Sept. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Stop measuring high level employee engagement and start understanding the feelings of each individual. That’s the message from Practically Positive Ltd, who have been working together with London Metropolitan University to further develop their research into the enigma that is employee engagement. Using research with people who love what they do, they’ve developed and tested an original model focusing on the experience of employee engagement at an individual level.  Their academic research shows that for individuals to flourish, they need to feel a combination of six things: Valuable, Autonomous, Challenged, Passionate, Safe and Connected. Using the results from comprehensive survey data and the brilliant minds at London Metropolitan University, they have just validated a new Flourishing at Work assessment tool, based on these feelings.

Jen Rolfe, Director and Founder of Practically Positive said:

“This assessment tool measures ‘state’ engagement for each individual, or in other words how much of these six feelings you’re experiencing at any one time. Once employees can identify the experience, they can do things to feel that way more often. Using this tool gives the power back to your employees. It’s not about changing your benefits package or adding flexitime, it’s about helping every person think differently about their tasks, interactions and days.”

Gary Pheiffer, Director of the Centre for Occupational, Business and Consumer Psychology at London Metropolitan University added:

“Helping organisations take a fresh approach to employee engagement will enable them to have employees who are not only flourishing, but who take responsibility for their own experiences at work. This tool is very different for the others available to Learning and Development teams and should be seen as the way forward.”
