ScottMadden to Present at the 2013 Transmission Summit West

ATLANTA - Sept. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, is proud to join transmission policy makers and executives as a presenter at Infocast’s 5^th Annual Transmission Summit West (http://www.infocastinc.com/events/transwest13) to be held Monday, September 23–Wednesday, September 25 at The Westgate Hotel in San Diego, California.

At this event, industry leaders will discuss the impacts of potential disruptive elements to traditional transmission strategies. These include the impending loss of baseload generation, growth in renewables and distributed generation, and the potential for new pathways to deliver energy to California.

Cristin Lyons (http://www.scottmadden.com/bios/25/Cristin-Lyons.html), partner and transmission, distribution, and Smart Grid practice leader at ScottMadden, will present “Changing Resources and Implications for Transmission.” This session will discuss changes to the generation portfolio, the introduction of significant renewable resources, and the deployment of customer-side resources—resources that are fundamentally changing the way electricity is produced and delivered to customers.

These changes are occurring in an environment of decreasing demand growth which impacts utility revenues and puts pressure on rates. Transmission sits in the middle of these changes, and these shifts will have important implications for transmission. They will impact the amount and location of transmission needed, the rates that can be charged for it, and its relative value in a utility’s portfolio assets. “The utility business model is changing, but transmission will remain a vital asset in the midst of this evolving landscape,” said Ms. Lyons.
