DALLAS - Sept. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- DALLAS – The attorneys at Dallas-based Reese Gordon Marketos LLP are investigating the City of Dallas crackdown against the popular Uber car service.

Uber serves more than 35 U.S. cities by allowing consumers to locate nearby limousine drivers using the company’s smartphone application and GPS technology. Recently, city officials attempted to halt Uber’s service in Dallas by relying on local ordinances that require transportation providers to obtain operating authority from the city.

Attorney Joel Reese, a founding partner of Reese Gordon Marketos, and associate, Leslie Chaggaris, represent 28 of the 31 drivers who have been improperly ticketed by the City of Dallas. “Every one of the drivers who have been charged by the City in this Uber-related witch hunt were operating their limos under a valid operating license issued by the City. The City should immediately take the responsibility for its actions and drop the charges, rather than to continue to prosecute its hard-working citizens who have broken no laws.” Mr. Reese was quoted on this subject in a Sept. 15, 2013, front-page story of the Dallas Morning News.

Mr. Reese also is taking a look at how anti-Uber policies were written by the city’s staff and how the resulting ordinance landed on the city council’s consent agenda without first seeking public comment.

“In just a few days, more than 16,000 North Texans signed a petition to preserve Uber’s service to Dallas, which clearly shows the public’s support for the company and the drivers that use their service,” says Mr. Reese. “Drivers who work with Uber in Dallas are properly licensed and authorized to transport individuals to their desired destinations, and we believe they have been unfairly targeted.”

On Aug. 28, the Dallas City Council agreed to authorize Mayor Mike Rawlings to oversee an investigation into how the proposed anti-Uber regulation was created and placed on the council’s consent agenda. Council members also referred the Uber agenda item to the council’s Transportation & Environment Committee.
