ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Sept. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- EcoTech Marine (http://ecotechmarine.com) is proud to announce its has once again served as a sponsor of the Marine Aquarium Societies of North America’s (MASNA) 2013-14 Student Scholarships. Recently presented at MACNA, the MASNA Student Scholarships provide two $4,000 scholarships to deserving students, one enrolled in undergraduate studies, the other enrolled in graduate school and both pursuing marine sciences.

In addition to sponsoring the scholarships financially, EcoTech Marine’s Patrick Clasen, co-founder and director of finance for EcoTech Marine, participated in the scholarship selection committee.

“It’s an honor to participate in these scholarships,” said Clasen. “EcoTech Marine certainly understands the importance of financial support and scholarship funding is an important way that we enable students to realize their dreams. And, personally, serving on the selection committee for this coveted scholarship is, while challenging, extremely rewarding. This year’s scholarship winners are standouts and will no doubt impact marine sciences in meaningful ways.”

The 2013-2014 MASNA Undergraduate Student Scholarship winner is Drew DeLorenzo, a full-time marine science and biochemistry undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina. DeLorenzo keeps a 125-gallon mixed-reef aquarium and hopes to one day pursue research in coral genetics.

The 2013-2014 MASNA Graduate Student Scholarship winner is Adeljean Ho, a full-time marine biology doctorate candidate at the Florida Institute of Technology. Ho’s research focuses on diet mediated coloration.

Others serving on the selection committee included Kevin Erickson, MASNA vice president; Adam Blundell, MASNA director at large; Amanda Cox, MASNA director of membership; Kevin Kohen, director of LiveAquaria.com; Dr. Sanjay Joshi, professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering, Penn State University; Dr. Matt Wittenrich, marine biologist, University of Florida's Tropical Aquaculture Laboratory; Martin Moe, marine biologist; and Tal Sweet, director of the Marine Breeding Initiative, among others.
