STOURBRIDGE, U.K. - Sept. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- One online hardware retailer (http://www.ironmongeryonline.com/) believes that the best of online retailers will soon be able to replicate everything that customers visited the High Street for – as well as bringing many more advantages.

For the hardware sector there was extra coverage when it was reported that a neighbourhood hardware store had ceased trading after 100 years. H. L. Owen, one of the last independent stores in Solihull, finally shut its doors after struggling to compete with major retailers and rising rates. The ironmongers and hardware shop had sold everything from nails, paint and brooms to cutlery, doormats and keys. It was originally located on the High Street for 70 years and has been at its current site for the last 38 years. Owner Bob Hackett, 65, spoke of his sadness at the decision to finally shut up shop, when he began work 50 years ago.

But Vicky Tomline, head of Sales and Marketing, believes online retailers can become just a well-loved as local stores. She said this week “Of course, our sympathy goes to Bob but retail is always evolving and online retailing is the next big evolutionary stage. But online retailers need to look at incorporating the areas that allowed Bob’s shop to serve the community for 100 years: excellence of customer service and the personal touch. To all this, online retailers can add massive stock levels, great prices and 24/7 opening hours.”

Ironmongery Online was established in 2006. The website holds thousands of products available on next day delivery and new products are introduced daily. The company specialises in hinges (http://www.ironmongeryonline.com/category/Hinges/1164), door furniture (http://www.ironmongeryonline.com/category/Door-Furniture/...) and general ironmongery but offers a one-stop shop for the general public and trade. It is proud of its extensive range of high quality products but equally as proud of its customer service

Vicky continued “The technology will develop soon so that online retailers can develop a close relationship with buyers. I believe they will soon be able to see staff members if they want to – and social media is already creating engagement and conversations. We already use functions like LiveChat so customers cab have their enquiries dealt with in real time by a real person.”
