Pesticide Industry Revenue Soaring with Glyphosate

HUANGPU, China - Sept. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- CRI REPORT - In the first half of 2013, the revenue of pesticide industry increased rapidly with the growth rate at 43.5% which was the highest among all chemical industries. From January to June in 2013, the total output of chemical pesticide in China was 1.635 million tons (converted to pure amount, the same hereinafter), increasing by 4.94% over the same period of 2012. Among that, the output of both fungicide and herbicide increased at a double-digit rate, increasing by 10.6% and 15.3% with output volumes of 86,000 tons and 914,300 tons respectively. The industrial restructuring, product upgrading, excess capacity eliminating and ecology check in recent years were the breaking point of healthy development of pesticide industry in China. Internationally, insufficient foreign production capacity also promoted the influence of Chinese pesticide. Therefore, China pesticide industry began to develop at a quite rapid speed.

From January to June in 2013, the total export volume of pesticide of China was 605,300 tons, increasing by 27.9% YOY. The export value reached USD 1.969 billion, increasing by 33.0%. Among that, herbicide export volume and value both significantly increased, increasing by 34.7% and 45.6% respectively. Insecticide export volume was 116,600 tons and export value was USD 454 million. Fungicide export volume decreased by 0.5%, but export value slightly increased by 7.5%.

The revenue growth rate of large-scale enterprises were all higher than the average revenue growth rate of pesticide industry, which indicated that the pesticide industry restructuring achieved initial success. Blindly increasing production capacity transferred to focusing on industry intensive development to pursue high quality and high revenue. Large-scale enterprises' dominant role is increasingly prominent. In 2013, glyphosate, paraguat, chlorpyrifos and other popular products are in short supply. Their prices keep increasing and profit margins are gradually widened. Therefore, the revenue of enterprises with original medicine production capacity significantly increased.

The revenue of China pesticide industry in the first half of 2013 was the highest in recent years due to a few factors. Glyphosate, chlorpyrifos and other popular products were expensive and in short supply and their prices keep increasing. The weather also promoted the demand for insecticide and fungicide. Furthermore, agencies replenished stock at the beginning of 2013 after undersold at the end of 2012, which resulted in the rapid growth of market demand. The revenue of original medicine enterprises increased most rapidly in the first half of 2013, as the change of relation between supply and demand directly led to the increase of both quantity and price. Ministry of Environment Protection and other departments at all levels strictly audit the new enterprises to avoid production capacity increasing sharply in spite of large market demand. The off-season of pesticide sales is approaching and enterprises are recommended to extend normal production time, improve equipment utilization and focus on the market next year.
