Follow on Google News | Triunfo Y Adopts National Healthy Eating & Physical Activity Program At Afterschool Childcare SiteThe Triunfo YMCA, serving Westlake Village, Oak Park and Agoura Hills, has adopted Healthy Eating & Physical Activity (HEPA) standards into its afterschool childcare program. The HEPA standards were created by the National AfterSchool Association.
By: Triunfo YMCA As part of HEPA, only healthy snacks and water are served during childcare hours. At least 20 percent or at least 30 minutes of morning or afterschool program time is dedicated to physical activity including a portion of time when students are moderately to vigorously active. Activities will take place outdoors whenever possible. “The average child spends over seven hours a day on electric devices including television, computers and phones,” says Ronnie Stone, Triunfo YMCA executive director. “We are bringing the outside play and healthy eating habits back into our children’s daily routine. Exercising and eating right is good for kids and fun at the same time. The HEPA standards serve as excellent guidelines to follow.” The Triunfo YMCA offers childcare at Yerba Buena Elementary, Sumac Elementary and Willow Elementary in Agoura Hills and White Oak Elementary in Westlake Village. A Kinder Club childcare program is specially designed for kindergarteners. Before and after school childcare is available on all schooldays, pupil-free days and minimum days. Camp programs are held during winter and spring breaks and any school furlough days. Children can attend full time or part time. Morning childcare begins at 6:30 a.m. After school childcare ends at 6:00 p.m. For more information, registration forms and fee schedules, call the Triunfo YMCA at 818-707-9622 or visit www.sevymca.org.
