SOUTHBURY, Conn. - Sept. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- .

SOUTHBURY, CT September 16, 2013 -- FltPlan.com reported the highest number of monthly flight plans and weather briefings created in company history: 460,193 flight plans and 452,000 weather briefings for the month of August 2013.

FltPlan.com saw a 3.3 percent increase in flight plans created for jets over August 2012.   There was also a 3.8 percent increase for piston aircraft flight plans created over the same period in 2012.  Helicopter flight plans created rose 53 percent from a year ago.

"While some of this growth can be attributed to an improving economy and even good summer flying weather, August is a continuation of the growth we have seen throughout 2013, said Ken Wilson, FltPlan.com's founder and president.

FltPlan.com (www.fltplan.com), now in its 14th year on the web,  is the largest flight-planning service in North America supporting over 130,000 pilots.

"As flight departments who fly  turbine aircraft continue to tighten their budgets, they realize that FltPlan.com is an economical way to file their flight plans," he said.  "We've also  made a concerted effort to meet more piston pilots at trade shows and meetings.  Word of mouth about FltPlan.com from professional pilots who fly  jets and turboprops down to those who fly smaller airplanes has also helped tremendously."

He said he also believes that the company's newly redesigned website launched this month will contribute to more piston-type aircraft pilots turning to FltPlan.com.

The combination of more sophistication among helicopter pilots flying IFR and their desire to land at more heliports and helipads have been key drivers in FltPlan.com delivering its best month ever creating helicopter flight plans, according to Wilson.

"We're hearing more people say, 'I'm a medevac flight helicopter pilot but I don't see this helipad at the hospital in your database.  Can you put that in?'  That's just what we do.  The more heliports and helipads we put in to our database, the more calls we receive."

This month FltPlan.com, the largest flight-planning service in North America,  launched a completely redesigned website at http://www.fltplan.com.  Since the service was born on the web, FltPlan's servers save all flight planning information and user documents.  Should a pilot's mobile device, including an Ipad, become unavailable, the pilot is just one internet connection away from his data.

FltPlan.com supports pilots with services ranging from flight plan filing, FBO/airport information, flight tracking, certified eAPIS submissions, SMS (IS-BAO and ACSF), runway analysis, weight and balance, eLogbook program, Mexican/Caribbean/Central America handling, Mexican and Cuban overflight services, pre-departure clearances, FAA-approved certified weather, and participation in the FAA's CDM program.
