Follow on Google News | Liverpool Wood Pellets Expands Operations With First Dedicated Sea Freight Shipment.Joint venture with the UK’s largest wood pellet supplier Balcas heralds new era for Merseyside distributor.
“This shipment is an indication of the growth Liverpool Wood Pellets has sustained over the last five years,” says Andy O’Halloran, sales manager for Liverpool Wood Pellets. “The volume of wood pellets we require to meet demand for this autumn and winter would have been logistically impossible to manage by road due to a lack of appropriate bulk-tipper vehicles. Being close to Liverpool docks made sea shipment an obvious alternative which also has less than half the carbon footprint in alignment with the company’s environmental policy. It will also secure far better continuity of supply during our peak trading seasons.” The shipment sees Liverpool Wood Pellets strengthen ties with Balcas, the largest wood pellet producer in the UK and Ireland, who are the sole supplier of wood pellets to Liverpool Wood Pellets. The ‘Brites’ brand of wood pellets supplied are accredited with the ENplus A1 standard which will be a requirement for government funding under the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme due to launch in spring 2014. The policy document for the scheme stipulates not only requirements for biomass boilers used but also the quality and source of the fuel they use. Liverpool Wood Pellets’ subsidiary company Tundra Wood Heating systems are already an established supplier and installer of advanced biomass boilers and both companies anticipate an increase in their customer bases as householders look to take advantage of available grants and ensure eligibility.
