NEW YORK - Sept. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- The crowdfunding phenomenon is pretty much alive on the other side of the Atlantic as it got a big Irish welcome last September 11, 2013 at the Learning Pool Cottage, Londonderry, Ireland. CultureTech returned with a fun-tastic celebration of all things digital. From games to films, to digital arts installations to industry workshops to live music to talks on crowdfunding.

The session on crowdfunding brought together industry experts from the US, Europe and the U.K. during a panel discussion. David Drake, Founder and Chairman of The Soho Loft, provided perspective on the U.S. crowdfunding; Michael Faulkner, Founder and CEO at SeedUps, gave the European viewpoint on crowdfunding; and finally Thomas Davies, Investment Director at Seedrs, shared the U.K.’s standpoint. The participants picked up valuable insights from the speakers on how companies benefit from crowdfunding campaigns.

No doubt, crowdfunding is shaping startup financing like never before. In the US alone, many crowdfunding platforms have been instrumental in giving startup companies their first breaths. Crowdfunding is in actual fact beginning to play a major role in how startups raise capital.

“I think within five years time crowdfunding will be the go to place for businesses to get that first bit of money to get going,” says Thomas Davies. “There are a lot of companies and ideas that never see the light of day because a person doesn’t have a wealthy family or rich friends. So crowdfunding starts to make a lot of sense,” Davies adds.

The panel held discussions on how legislation is shifting in the U.S. to change the face of angel investing and how the U.K. and Europe are miles ahead when it comes to equity crowdfunding.

“Crowdfunding is attracting significant attention because of the unparalleled successful ventures of many crowdfunding platforms in the U.S. – like Kickstarter,” says David Drake. “The passing of the JOBS Act is the first step in legitimizing an exciting new horizon in public fundraising or crowdfunding,” adds Drake.

“Sharing the crowdfunding panel with David Drake and Thomas Davies from Seedrs was enjoyable and informative. David's in depth understanding of the US and International crowdfunding scene brought much to the discussion and really gave depth to the panel,” says Michael Faulkner.

The panel discussion featured individual thirty-minute one-on-one interviews followed by a relaxed and casual Q&A session.
