American Leak Detection goes to the Oregon Zoo

MEDFORD, Ore. - Sept. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- The Oregon Zoo teamed up with American Leak Detection of Oregon in order to promote water conservation in 2011.

American Leak Detection of Oregon surveyed more than 2 miles of pipe that run throughout the Oregon Zoo. This was in an effort to uphold Metro’s commitment to sustainability.

ALD Technicians begin work after hours focusing on ALD’s specialty of non-invasive leak detection in order to identify possible areas of water loss. In order to ensure minimal disruption to the animals schedules the leak detection was done overnight.

ALD’s leak detection system utilizes electronic and sonic listening equipment as well as helium in order to locate leaks. This system enabled the Zoo to more quickly locate and repair leaks saving thousands of gallons of water each month.

As the Oregon Zoo infrastructure ages they want to make sure that they are able to conserve as many resources as possible, according to Chris Massey the Oregon Zoo facilities and horticulture manager.

Although not quite sure of their water usage they’ve estimated it to be millions of gallons yearly, and will be implementing a new software to help quantify and track their water usage.
