HUNGERFORD, U.K. - Sept. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Hungerford, Berkshire, UK: 11 September, 2013 – RGB Comms and Channel Partners deliver Barco solution
Working with RGB Communications (http://www.rgbcomms.co.uk/)' channel partners Media Traffic and Northern Light Direct, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC (http://www.eicc.co.uk/)), one of the world's outstanding venues for conferences, conventions and exhibitions, has continued its 18 year association with Barco by deploying 3 x HDX-W18 (http://www.barco.com/en/products-solutions/projectors/large-venue-projectors/18000-lumens-wuxga-dlp-projector.aspx) and 7 x RLM-W8 (http://www.barco.com/en/Products-Solutions/Projectors/Large-venue-projectors/8000-lumens-WUXGA-DLP-projector.aspx) 3-chip DLP projectors, following a planned replacement programme which was completed earlier this year.

"Each time we carry out projector replacements we look at multiple competitive solutions, but since the EICC opened 18 years ago, it has steadfastly remained with Barco. Barco's projectors have consistently outperformed the competition in all of our projector 'shoot-outs'," said Kenneth Boak, Technical Production Manager at the EICC. "I have been with the EICC since its launch and it has been fascinating to watch Barco's technology develop over the years. More and more of the features we have needed have been incorporated within every new release."

The latest replacement covers the original EICC building and the newly opened Lennox Suite which now enables the EICC to host larger events than was previously possible. The unique, 1,590m2 Lennox Suite features moving floor technology which means that the space can be transformed from a flat-floored area into modes such as raked auditorium for 2,000, arena for 1,400 and tiered cabaret for 750 guests.

"Product selection for our latest replacement was crucial to ensure that the new facility, incorporating both the original building and the Lennox Suite, would continue to not only meet but exceed the projection requirements of our clients," continued Boak. "Another important factor for us is that visiting production companies have to be comfortable coming into the EICC and using our projection equipment. To date, everyone looking to us to provide their projection has been happy using Barco."

To eliminate noise in the auditorium and to allow direct access to the projector during an event, the projection in the Lennox Suite travels 45 metres from the control room to 8 x 4.5 metre screens. Boak needed a projector that was as small and silent as possible and that operated with a low heat output. Long lenses were key as was the ability to interchange with a variety of lenses to meet other auditoria’s requirements.

"Additionally, the reliability of a projector in a conference centre environment has to be exceptional and Barco's 3-Chip DLP HDX-W18 exactly fits the bill," explained Boak. "It has been designed with efficiency and quick setup in mind. The HDX-W18 has five building blocks which, if necessary, can be easily and quickly swapped out resulting in quick and easy on site recovery reducing down-time as well as reducing time spent on servicing."

The need to deliver the highest quality projection is imperative for the EICC but until this latest replacement it was not economically viable to deploy 3-Chip DLP projectors throughout its facilities.

"But, this has now changed as Barco has broken the price versus performance barrier with the RLM-W8 and so we are able to provide the benefits of 3-Chip DLP projection to all of our clients, regardless of which of our auditoria best suits their requirements," said Boak.

"Because of the increased return on investment available from deploying Barco's high quality, flexible yet robust projectors, it now makes financial sense to own them whereas previously they had been leased," Boak added.

"It's a huge benefit to have all of our projectors on site allowing the EICC team to really get to know them and consequently understand how to exploit their features and functionality to their full potential," continued Boak. "This means that we can provide the best projection solution from both a product and product support perspective helping to make sure that our clients' events run without a hitch."

The installation within the original building at the EICC was undertaken by Ian Abbey from Media Traffic, who has a long standing relationship with EICC and Ed Gamble of Northern Light Direct, (http://www.northernlight.co.uk/) who was responsible for thedelivery of the audio visual equipment for the Lennox Suite.

Both Media Traffic and Northern Light are channel partners of Barco's exclusive UK and Ireland distributor, RGB Communications (http://www.rgbcomms.co.uk/).
