The 2014 Honda Odyssey is Named an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus

Sept. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- The 2014 Honda Odyssey (http://www.sunvalleyhonda.ca/models/2014-honda-odyssey/) recently achieved the highest possible designation of Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This minivan even performed well in the recently added and rigorous small overlap frontal crash test, receiving an overall rating of GOOD. This new test was designed by the IIHS to duplicate the effect of the front corner of a car colliding with another vehicle or narrow object like a utility pole or tree.

There are several factors that contributed to the Odyssey’s remarkable performance in the IIHS tests. The vehicle features Honda’s next-generation ACE body structure that helps evenly distribute crash energy throughout the front of the automobile in the event of a collision. In addition to being structurally designed with safety in mind, the 2014 Honda Odyssey also comes equipped with a variety of standard safety features including an Anti-lock Breaking System (ABS), side curtain airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control, and dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags.

The side curtain airbags Honda included in this year’s Odyssey are quite innovative. These airbags have a front chamber design that offers improved protection if a passenger moves in a more angled direction. This is particularly important for oblique and offset crashes.

The 2014 Honda Odyssey is not the only vehicle from the automaker that has received 2013 Top Safety Pick+ honors from the IIHS.
