BEDFORD, Mass. - Sept. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Libman Education announces a new online ICD-10 readiness course to help physicians and physician extenders understand ICD-10 and its impact on the physician practice.

Titled ICD-10: What Physicians Need to Know, the physician ICD-10 training course introduces the new ICD-10 classification system, and covers its similarities and differences with ICD-9. Of particular benefit is a description of the documentation requirements by specialty to aid physicians and their staff in ensuring that notes provide adequate detail to allow proper coding.

With its online self-paced format, the course allows students to work around their busy schedules. The course—which includes three lessons that take about twenty minutes each to complete—can be finished in approximately one hour.

Students learn about documentation requirements in both office and hospital settings, and identify specific documentation issues by specialty. In addition, the course shows what is changing in health care data collection, why these changes are necessary, and the impact these changes have on groups and areas within our health care system.

The course is written by Lynn Kuehn, MS, RHIA, CCS-P, FAHIMA, a nationally recognized expert in ICD-10.

“The new physician ICD-10 training course allows physicians and physician extenders to adequately prepare for the important ICD-10 changes coming next year,” said Kuehn. “Look for these changes to have a significant impact on the physician practice and documentation requirements; the implications for payment and reimbursement are tremendous. Timely preparation is imperative!”

ICD-10: What Physicians Need to Know teaches physicians how to improve communication with coders. Physicians also learn about the need for more specificity in dictation and documentation.

Both physicians and physician extenders—including Registered Nurses (RN), Nurse Practitioners (NPP), and Physician Assistants (PA)—benefit from learning about the classification system changes and the types of required documentation. In addition, medical students and interns learn what is needed to succeed and get a jump on future in-service training.
