TAMPA, Fla. - Sept. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Austin, Texas: It is with great honor that Dr. Sudhakar Yakkanti, President of Omics Group of San Fransisco, has appointed Kenneth Blum, Msc., PhD, DHL and Rajendra Badgaiyan, MD, MA to the prestigious position of Editor-in-Chief and Co-Editor-in-Chief respectively of the Journal of Addiction Research & Therapy, a medical peer-reviewed publication. Among their responsibilities, doctors Blum and Badgaiyan will have final approval on all papers published in the journal.

The Journal of Addiction Research & Therapy (JART) is a peer-reviewed publication comprised on leading addiction researchers and thinkers. It provides comprehensive aspects of physiological, biochemical, genetic and behavioral pathways underlying addiction, focusing on spectrum of related CNS disorders and novel therapies providing an unprecedented overview of a complex field of high societal significance. JART is an Open Access journal. Its contents are free and available on-line, making the Journal of Addiction Research & Therapy a valuable research and clinical resource.

Both Dr. Blum and Badgaiyan are uniquely qualified for their new positions. Dr. Rajendra Badgaiyan  is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Buffalo, Assistant Professor at Harvard University, and is serving as Psychiatrist at WNY VAMC, Buffalo, NY. Dr. Badgaiyan is a distinguished member of various societies including Society of Nuclear Medicine, American Psychiatric Association, Society for Neuroscience and many more. Badgaiyan has a unique background in neuro-imaging methods and is credited with single-cell imaging of dopaminergic pathways.

Dr. Blum made global headlines over twenty-years ago with his co-discovery of the ‘Reward Gene’ and subsequent discovery of ‘Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS).’ RDS has recently been added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V). In addition, he has made significant contributions to the discovery and understanding or the ‘Reward Center’ and ‘Reward Circuitry.’ Dr. Blum has over 400 papers published by scientific and medical peer-reviewed publications. He is currently a volunteer Full Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, McKnight Brain Institute, University Of Florida College Of Medicine Gainesville, Florida and Research Professor (Adjunct) at Global Integrated Services Unit, University of Vermont Center for Clinical & Translational Science, College of Medicine, Burlington, VT. In 1995 Dr. Blum retired as a full professor in the Department of Pharmacology, University of Texas, where he was also chief of the Division of Addictive Diseases, chief of the Division of Substance and Alcohol Misuse, and director of the Laboratory of Pharmacogenetics at the University of Texas Health Science Center (San Antonio, Texas). Dr. Blum is also the Chief Science Officer at the National Institute For Holistic Addiction Studies in North Miami Beach, Florida.
