Homeless Man Returns Engagement Ring

NEW YORK - Sept. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- It is a tale that is almost too good to be true. Luckily, it is all true, and it is a story that needs to be told.  It is also a cautionary tale about protecting your fine jewelry by taking advantage of the jewelry insurance services that your jeweler can provide.  Essentially, it is a story about the triumph of the human spirit and the willingness for some to do what they know is right.

The homeless man in question, who asked that his name not be used because he didn’t want his family to know his situation, was sitting where he normally does, downtown, near the main bus terminal. With a paper cup and a cardboard sign explaining his situation, people passing by would drop a few coins or maybe a bill into his cup.

“When they put in paper, I take it right out so it don’t blow away or somebody might steal it right out of my cup. Coins I let pile up and then just dump them in my pocket.” The man smiled pensively, “I never had a plan for what to do if an engagement ring ended up in there.”

Luckily, the bride-to-be did. Devastated over the loss and unsure where she might have lost her beautiful ring, she and her fiancé had taken advantage of the jewelry insurance services offered to them by The Diamond Supplier where the couple had purchased the five thousand dollar ring. Because of the insurance, they were able to get the exact same style of ring as a replacement.

Ironically, this story of an engagement ring accidentally lost to a panhandler has an even happier ending. When the man emptied his cup only moments after she had passed by and dropped in a handful of coins, he knew the ring must have been hers. Nearly a month later, when he spotted the young woman again, he rushed to her, ring in hand and simply said “Ma’am, I believe this is yours.”
