New Dimensions in Alzheimer’s on September 16, 2013 at 7:00 PM EDT

Featured Guests – Dr. Pierre Tariot, Director of Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and Bob Deits, Author & Pastor plus a wrap-up with Leeza Gibbons, Television & Radio host, Author, and Founder of Leeza’s Care Connection and Leeza’s Place offering free services for family caregivers.

Join us on September 16, 2013 at 7:00 PM EDT, in recognizing World Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. Alzheimer’s is the most common type of dementia. According to a recent report, the Federal Government is spending over $100 billion per year for Alzheimer’s-related healthcare, and by 2050 the cost is anticipated to reach $1.2 trillion. In 2012, family and friends provided an estimated 17.5 billion unpaid hours in caring for loved ones. Current statistics purported by the Alzheimer’s Association indicate that one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease is utterly daunting – for those diagnosed and for their loved ones making the journey alongside them. For those families hope is magnified in the day-to-day, and in scientific research and groundbreaking interventions. As one of the world’s leading Alzheimer’s researchers and director at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, Pierre Tariot, M.D. is committed to finding medicines to “stop Alzheimer’s in its tracks.”

Dr. Pierre Tariot has dedicated his heart and mind to a shared “ambitious goal to end Alzheimer’s before another generation is lost.” Together with Eric Reiman, M.D., he is co-leading the Alzheimer’s Prevention Initiative (API), an international collaborative formed to launch a new era of Alzheimer’s prevention research by evaluating the most promising therapies and doing so as quickly as possible. In addition to Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, API is supported by the National Institutes of Health, the University of Antioquia in Columbia and Genentech. People who are interested in learning more about Alzheimer's prevention research should visit www.endalznow.org.

In this episode, we’ll chat with Dr. Pierre Tariot about the latest advances in Alzheimer’s prevention research, and we’ll explore what led him down such an ambitious path in medicine. Author and Pastor Bob Deits, will also join us in this roundtable discussion. Deits will relay his experiences as a caregiver who pursued clinical trials focused on the possible causes of Alzheimer’s disease. We’ll wrap up by Leeza Gibbons joining the discussion to merge medicine and miracles with heart-vested caregiving. In sharing her personal walk through Alzheimer’s, as well as her mission of Leeza’s Place, listeners will no doubt come away filled with hope and encouragement.

Join co-hosts Maryann Makekau and Rob Harris on Because Hope Matters Radio (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/becausehopematters) for a dedicated hour of learning, understanding, and helping the millions of families courageously loving each other through it. Together, we can magnify hope – even inside Alzheimer’s disease.
