Media Release - Downtown Markham Public Art Installation

VAUGHAN, Ontario - Sept. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The Remington Group will be converting construction hoarding into an outdoor artists’ canvas in September.

The Remington Group’s Downtown Markham development is thrilled to announce that 20 artists have now been selected from an overwhelming number of applicants and will begin producing their work onsite at the Downtown Markham ‘Outdoor Studio’ beginning Monday, September 9^th running through to Friday, September 13^th from 9am to 5pm each day.

Each artist will be provided with a hoarding panel measuring 8ft by 10ft to produce an image that reflects their vision of the perfect city. “We are very excited to see what this talented group of artists produce and thrilled by the community response.  This initiative represents the first step in our commitment to the long term vision for public art in the City of Markham”, said Chris Bratty, President of Land Development and Investments.

Once completed, all 20 images will be installed along 300 feet of construction hoarding located along the northeast corner of Enterprise Blvd and Birchmount Road.  The public will be given the opportunity to vote online for their favourite artist’s interpretation and the winner will be awarded a $5,000 art commission by The Remington Group for installation in Downtown Markham.  Public voting will open in late September at www.downtownmarkham.ca/publicart .

We invite the media to visit Downtown Markham’s outdoor studio to join the artists and to learn a little bit more about the future of this wonderful new community.  Artist interviews may be granted on a first come first serve basis.
