SOUTHAMPTON, U.K. - Sept. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Murray Easton CBE, a leading industrialist and prominent figure within the marine industry, will be the closing speaker of the 2013 Shipwrights Lectures on Wednesday 23rd October at the Turner Sims, University of Southampton.

Murray’s experience in the shipbuilding industry began nearly 40 years ago at Yarrow Shipbuilders Ltd. following degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Ship Production Technology. Since his time at Yarrow he has taken on a range of high profile roles at prestigious companies, including Babcock International and BAE systems.

Murray has turned around both commercial shipbuilding and nuclear submarine building yards, and was awarded a CBE in 2008 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the industry.

Murray has been a member of the Shipwrights Livery for over 30 years and comments, “I am thrilled to have been invited to speak at this year’s lectures. Having served on the Shipwrights Educational Committee I am well aware of the invaluable support that the Livery gives to young people either thinking about a career in the industry, or already started on one. Sharing experiences through these lectures inspires others as I have been inspired in the past, and still am, in what is a fascinating industry whether boat or shipbuilding. I have thoroughly enjoyed my career, have had great fun working with many wonderful people and hope that the apprentices have similar opportunities.”

Michael Derrick liveryman, says, “It is a great pleasure to have Murray Easton as our 2013 Closing Speaker. Murray has had a remarkable career in the marine industry giving inspirational leadership to apprentices and management alike.”

He continues, “Murray is a regular speaker on the subject of ‘Leadership of Complex Projects’ at the Manchester Business School and his experiences in the marine industry make him the ideal closing speaker of this year’s Shipwright Lectures. I very much look forward to his address.”

Employers from Falmouth to Chichester, training colleges, universities, and industry bodies including the British Marine Federation and Classification Societies have attended both previous lectures and will again be supporting this year’s lectures.
