2013 MMER 12 Hour race: PS Racing/Absolute Racing-supported BRT team takes GTC podium

ZHUHAI, China - Sept. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Sepang International F1 Circuit, Malaysia:

Hot on the heels of the exciting Audi R8 LMS Cup Round 8 at the Sepang International Circuit was the 12 hour MMER (Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race), held on Saturday at midnight. An equal test of man and machine, the annual 12 hour race challenges teams on the engineering side just as much as the driving aspect. With technical support and coaching from PS Racing and Absolute Racing, the BRT1 (Brother’s Racing Team 1) entry of Ren Wei, Sun Bo, Yang Xi, He Yi, and Wu Zhou gave a strong, consistent performance and a superb 2^nd place on the podium in the GTC class.

Unfortunately, the second Brother’s Racing Team entry, BRT2, featuring drivers Sun Zheng, Zhang Zhi Qiang and Cheng Cong Fu, had a great performance during the race but succumbed to mechanical issues while leading the GTC class.

During Friday afternoon’s MMER qualifying, during Q2 the BRT2 car had small incident and couldn’t make Q3, thus having to start from the back of the grid. Despite this handicap, the BRT 2 drivers did an outstanding job from the start of the 12 hour race at midnight Saturday, and moved up to only a half lap behind the GTC class leader by the by the end of their first stint. By the second stint, they moved up to take a dominating lead in the GTC class by four laps, before succumbing to an engine mount problem. After repairs, the BRT2 team rejoined, only to experience to a gearbox issue which caused them to DNF despite an excellent drive.

But despite 12 hours of non-stop racing through the night, during which no less than 11 of the starting 33 cars DNF’d, the BRT1 Audi R8 LMS Cup car of Ren Wei/Sun Bo/Yang Xi/He Yi/Wu Zhou took 10^th overall and 2^nd on the podium in the high-level GTC class, after qualifying 12^th overall and 2^nd in class – congratulations to Brothers Racing Team on an outstanding performance.
