The Theatre of Creative Consciousness of the Arts Presents: “A Devastating Impact"

A suspenseful story about the perils of HIV/AIDS. Helping to create awareness and prevention in impacted South Florida Communities. The production is co-sponsored by the Friends of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center.
 
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Sept. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- The Theatre of Creative Consciousness of the Arts, Inc. (TCCA) is proud to present “A Devastating Impact,” at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, located at 2650 Sistrunk Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, 33311, on Saturday November 2, 2013. The theatre group will be presenting two performances: Matinee – 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and another performance from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The doors will open at 12:00 p.m. The theatre production is co-sponsored by the Friends of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center.

This suspenseful story about HIV/AIDS is written by Akbar Abdul Aziz and Mamie Lee Young with Direction by Islah Abdul Aziz. This entertaining musical production will educate the audience about the perils of this devastating disease. The production stars Shamika Innocent as Freda Henderson, a 19 year-old virgin diagnosed HIV positive. Innocent is joined by co-stars, Loleta “Sway” Harris as Nikki and Ryan Hall as Thad, plus other supporting cast members.

The striking statistics of new cases in this region is a clear indication that the impact of HIV/AIDS is far-reaching into the communities of South Florida. Broward County Health Department reported a staggering total of 16,676 new cases with HIV in Broward County from January to December 2012. TCCA is working with other HIV/AIDS related organizations in the tri-county area to make this event a success. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation in Broward County is offering free testing and additional information from a mobile unit parked on site at the event November 2, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The Theatre of Creative Consciousness of the Arts was founded in 1980 by Islah Abdul Aziz.  This non-profit organization has been located in the City of Deerfield Beach since 2002. The theatre group produces performances and participates in community events to combat negative influences that affect the community at large. Some negative influences include drugs, violence, gun control, abortion, and currently, HIV/AIDS. The purpose of this production is to raise awareness of the rampant spread of HIV/AIDS specifically in Broward, Dade, and West Palm Beach Counties, and to promote prevention, testing and treatment.
